Why you should attend?

Public Inquiries (whether planning appeals or other inquiries) can put increased pressure and stress on the staff involved, many of whom may have little experience of the inquiry process. At some stage in their careers most town planners will be required to give evidence at some type of formal hearing when they will be subject to cross examination by barristers. This masterclass will provide you with the tools and techniques to prepare properly for such a situation, present your evidence to the best of your ability at the inquiry and deal confidently with cross examination. It will also provide background for preparing and appearing at public inquiries and enable them to be more confident when giving evidence and facing cross examination.

Presenter

The trainer

Philip Williams

During his degree, where he specialised in Ecology, Philip spent much of his time researching flora and fauna in the Rainforests of Southern Trinidad. From his time studying the effects of tropical deforestation Philip has developed an entrenched interest in both Public and Environmental Law. Philip has a continuing interest in sustainable development policies, he has advised the WWF on the implementation of such policies within the Government of Wales Act 2006.

While practising in Planning and Public Law, Philip is an established Criminal and Civil advocate and is able to offer tactical advice from the outset. He is particularly able at identifying narrow points of law and is not afraid of using them to his clients’ advantage. Philip is developing a successful High Court practice and is currently Counsel in several judicial reviews. He is also junior Counsel in a number of matters for clients who are landowners near the 2012 Olympic site in East London. These matters involve multi-million pound land transactions and other complex contractual litigation issues.
